What is a Good Vertical Jump?
A good vertical jump height varies based on factors such as age, sex, training level, and the testing protocol used1. Here's a breakdown of average vertical jump heights to help you assess your performance:
Measuring Vertical Jump
To accurately assess your vertical jump, use the following method recommended by the National Strength and Conditioning Association:
- Rub chalk on your fingertips and stand with your dominant shoulder against a wall.
- Reach up as high as possible and touch the wall, leaving a chalk mark.
- Without moving your feet, bend your knees and jump as high as you can.
- Reach high on the wall with your dominant arm and make a new chalk mark.
- Measure the distance between the two points in inches to determine your vertical jump height.
