Podcasting has become a lucrative industry in recent years, and it’s no surprise that athletes are taking notice. From discussing their lives on and off the field to offering insights and opinions on current events, podcasts provide athletes with a platform to connect with their fans and monetize their personal brand. But just how much money is in podcasting, and what role do athletes play in this rapidly growing industry?

To start, the podcasting industry was estimated to be worth over $1 billion in 2021, $2 billion in 2023  and is expected to continue to grow in the coming years. This growth can be attributed to the increasing popularity of podcasts and the growing number of advertisers seeking to reach the engaged and dedicated audience that podcasts attract.

In 2020, the Ringer, founded by Bill Simmons was acquired by Spotify for around $200m.

But how much money is really in podcasting for athletes?

The short answer is: It depends! The amount you earn depends on your monetization strategy and the popularity of your show. Revenues can come from ads, sponsorships, listener donations, or subscriptions. The average cost per 1,000 listens for an audio ad is $18-$30, which can yield $180-$300 for 10,000 listens. Athlete-hosted podcasts have the potential to earn from sponsorships as well. The more popular the show, the greater the earning potential. This doesn’t include any additional income from sponsorships, which could increase earnings even further if secured

Athletes, in particular, have found success in the podcasting world due to their unique perspectives and experiences. From sharing behind-the-scenes stories to offering expert analysis, athletes bring a level of authenticity and excitement to the podcasting space. Many athletes have leveraged their personal brand to create successful podcasts, attracting a large and dedicated following of fans and advertisers.

Some athletes that has started a podcast are C.C. Sabathia , C.J. McCollum, J.J. Reddick, Robert Whittaker and so many.

However, monetizing a podcast is not as simple as just creating content and waiting for the money to roll in. In order to maximize earnings, it’s important to have a well-defined target audience, a consistent release schedule, and engaging content. Additionally, athletes can monetize their podcasts through advertising, sponsorships, and partnerships, as well as through merchandise and other products.

The podcasting industry is a lucrative and growing market, and athletes have a unique opportunity to capitalize on this trend. With their personal experiences and perspectives, athletes have the potential to create successful and profitable podcasts, connecting with fans and monetizing their personal brand.

Essentially what we’re saying here is that there’s absolutely potential for earning good money through podcasting as an athlete — but just like anything else it requires hard work & dedication plus strategic planning & execution if you want success out of the gate! So don’t get discouraged by not seeing immediate results; keep grinding away at building up your following until eventually those numbers start translating into real dollars
