The Worst of the Worst Team to Ever Play in Serie A
Anyone who follows Italian football for long enough will know that while teams like Juventus, Milan and Inter have brought immense success and trophies galore, Serie A has also seen its fair share of truly woeful sides over the years. So which teams could truly stake a claim to being the worst ever to play in Italy's top flight? Here are my picks for the five biggest disasters Serie A has ever witnessed.
At number five has to be Lodigiani from the 1993-94 season. Winning just five games all year, they finished rooted to the bottom with a miserable 12 points, a massive 22 points from safety.
Goalkeeper Giorgio Sterchele will surely have nightmares about the 54 goals they conceded that term.
Number four goes to another one-season wonder - Ancona in 2004-05. They somehow survived relegation the year before, but theWriting hangover cost them dearly as rookie coach Piero Braglia failed miserably with a measly 13 points. Massimo Cacciatori's nine goals wasn't nearly enough to keep them up.
Pescara take the third spot for their bad 2014-15 campaign under architect-turned-coach Zdenek Zeman. Known more for his gung-ho attacking approach, Zeman tried to play the same suicidal football in Serie A with disastrous consequences as they leaked goals for fun in a miserable season that yielded a paltry 16 points.

The silver medal has to go to Foggia from the 1992-93 season. They won just twice all year under four different managers as big stars like Baiano and Signori failed to fire. Abysmal defending was their downfall as a whopping 71 goals shipped saw them prop up the table with 15 measly points.
But topping the lot has to be yet another one-hit wonder - Penzo Messina who defy all logic to clinch the wooden spoon with a ridiculous eight points in the 2003-04 season. Just three wins all campaign and a goal difference of -45 tells you all you need to know about Italian football's all-time biggest joke. Of the 23 defeats that season, 12 were by three or more goals. Ouch.
Serie A has produced legendary teams and talents over the decades, it has also borne witness to some horrendous campaigns from truly dreadful teams that make you thankful you weren't a fan during their short and nightmarish stays in the top flight. Time heals wounds, but those fans will never forget the trauma of supporting these clubs.
